The elegant Carta Bench was designed by Shigeru Ban for Cappellini in 1999. Defined by its use of unconventional materials—the seating area of the bench is composed of recycled cardboard tubes—the bench presents characteristic Japanese design elements. The play of straight and curved lines is reminiscent of inverted eaves, and the cardboard tubes resemble the visual rhythm of Japanese tiled roofs. The overall effect of the bench is decidedly sculptural, but it maintains plenty of functional seating space. The combination of its sophisticated, refined design and the practicality of the materials make the Carta Bench a versatile accent piece that is at home in a formal living room or a modest hallway.
Recycled materials (small diameter cardboard tubes.)
Base is made of white beech stained plywood.
